Thrust Boring Soil Displacement (MOLEING)
For new pipe, lead pipe replacement and cable installations of mains and services, soil displacement hammers have been an economic and ecological alternative to open trenching for more than 20 years. Operated by compressed air, the mole thrust borer makes its way accurately through the ground creating a bore hole in all compressible soils.
Johns Water Services Ltd, are the specialists in this area for the use of the mole thrust borer. This technique is regularly used by us to provide access for water pipes, ducting, and also cables, without the need for expensive and unsightly excavation, also saving the cost of re-instatement under roads, pathways, and hard standings. We do however own plant and equipment to carry out and reinstate open cut work as well. We have carried out work for a number of Councils, private clients, companies and Housing Associations, who may be contacted for references.
The majority of our current workload is the replacement of lead and iron water service pipes with MDPE pipes to domestic and industrial properties. Our company is therefore FLOW registered with the Welsh Water Board and Water Mark Scheme for Seven Trent area, ensuring the highest standards of workmanship, and compliance with the relevant Byelaws.
This technique involves two excavations (launch and receive), where the torpedo shaped mole is lined up on the target in the first pit, the mole is pneumatically powered and hammers it’s way through the ground. On entering the receive pit the mole is removed from the air line which is then attached to the pipe / cable to be pulled back through the hole that has been bored.
